NSF Awards X-Sight Inc with SBIR Phase I

July 21, 2023 – National Science Foundation (NSF) awards X-Sight Inc with a SBIR Phase I Grant to improve access to 3D x-ray imaging by designing a cold cathode, miniature x-ray source. The problem being addressed by the grant is that x-ray imaging is the main method of non-destructively imaging objects, but existing systems are “large, expensive and immobile which prevent their use in more applications”. This grant will fund X-Sight to design a miniature x-ray source that is key to enabling new 3D imaging systems that are “less expensive, smaller and more compact, require less power and demonstrate higher performance”. The broader impact is that x-ray imaging will become “more affordable and available where and when it is needed, outside of key infrastructure locations.”
